Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music for the district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region and state recognition.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Masters degree preferred
High School or Middle School experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures.
Knowledge of all applicable UIL and TMEA policies and procedures.
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
Knowledge of subjects assigned, including current research.
Skill in effectively managing a classroom and student behavior.
Skill in communicating effectively with others.
Skill in modifying instruction for various student needs.
Skill in working with various forms of equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, calculators, projectors, and printers.
Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to, email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets.
Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments.

Job Description Head Band Director
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Follow GISD Fine Arts Instructor Handbook & applicable UIL and TMEA policies.
2. Assign, supervise, and coordinate job responsibilities and instructional/learning strategies of the assistant director(s) within the program (when applicable).
3. Develop, implement, and monitor a recruitment, audition, and placement program/schedule for all potential students; assign students to an appropriate class based on audition/placement criteria; and submit class rosters to all counselors and the principal or principal's designee prior to the specified campus deadline.
4. Conduct rehearsals outside the academic school day to provide adequate preparation for performances and shows in compliance with UIL rules and regulations.
5. Participate in campus, district, TMEA, and UIL instrumental music events, including UIL Marching Band Contest, TMEA All-Region Band auditions, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation, and GISD Solo & Ensemble. Complete entry forms and submit payment for all events by the specified deadlines.
6. Direct, at minimum, two band concerts each school year in addition to the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation. Assist with the campus musical each year in cooperation with the Theatre Head Director (when applicable).
7. Obtain approval of the campus principal and the Director of Fine Arts for any off-campus performances or contests scheduled in addition to those required by UIL, TMEA, and/or Greenville ISD.
8. Maintain a current inventory of all designated fine arts equipment, instructional materials, and uniforms in the specified materials management system and share with the Director of Fine Arts; coordinate the proper service and/or repair of school-owned equipment.
9. Assist in the Fine Arts Department in preparation of the program's budget.
10. Supervise, manage, and coordinate instruction for the Individual Private Lesson Program; collect and review forms from Private Lesson instructors and return those materials to the Director of Fine Arts by the specified deadlines.
11. Submit purchase requisitions and voucher requests for equipment, supplies, and services related to the instructional program. Comply with all financial deadlines and procedures.
12. Manage the collection, receipt, and deposit of all student fees and fundraising proceeds; comply with established GISD policies and procedures regarding the implementation of fundraising activities, as well as the deposit and expenditure of all Activity Account funds.
13. Assist the Director of Fine Arts or designee in scheduling performances, contests, and activities sponsored or hosted by UIL, TMEA, and/or Greenville ISD.
14. Develop, implement, and monitor a public relations program that will keep the public aware of the accomplishments and events involving students in the instructional program. Human Resources - GISD

15. Guide all booster club activities as policies and procedures require, and insure all activities sponsored by such groups reflect positively on the school district, campus, and instructional program.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
