Description

As a valued member of the Marketing and Communications Department, the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications serves as a primary college storyteller, strategic communicator, and project lead for institutional communications initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this position directs and coordinates specific marketing and communications projects within the department and President's Office that advance Blue Ridge Community College's internal and external communications goals, strengthen the College brand, and support institutional priorities.

Examples of Duties

Lead and coordinate assigned marketing and communications projects and campaigns in collaboration with College departments, programs, and the President's Office.
Develop and implement communication strategies that strengthen the College's brand and increase engagement among prospective and current students, employees, donors, parents, alumni, and the public.
Coordinate and execute assigned communications and marketing projects for the President's Office.
Plan, develop, and create written and visual content for College communication channels including news releases, newsletters, digital media, printed materials, website content, social media, presentations, speeches, event promotions, and integrated marketing campaigns, while maintaining a consistent institutional voice and brand identity.
Serve as an immediate backup to the Director of Marketing & Communications for emergency messaging execution and time-sensitive communications needs, and assist with weather and safety communications outside of normal business hours.
Coordinate and execute assigned promotional and institutional campaigns, ensuring alignment with College priorities and branding standards.
Assist in brand management and enforcement of institutional identity standards.
Oversee the scheduling, strategy, and distribution of content across the College's social media platforms while fostering engagement with students, employees, community members, and stakeholders.
Serve as an administrator for the College's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, including development, organization, audience segmentation, and execution of campaign messaging.
Serve on assigned committees, including the Strategic Enrollment team.
Regularly update and maintain portions of the College website in collaboration with other Marketing & Communications team members.
Serve as editor and proofreader for institutional marketing and communications materials.
Stay informed of College news, current events, and issues affecting higher education and the local community to support strategic storytelling and institutional messaging.
Attend assigned and selected College events to represent the department and gather strategic content including photography, interviews, and story opportunities.
Manage departmental activities related to awards submissions, recognitions, and institutional applications.
Remain informed of College programs, events, and initiatives across all campuses to support institutional communication efforts.
Assist with additional departmental marketing and communications initiatives assigned.
Ensure compliance with all College policies and procedures, North Carolina Community College System regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements while maintaining appropriate confidentiality standards.

Qualifications
Education

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Public Relations, or Journalism.

Experience

A minimum of five years' experience working in marketing, communications, or news media roles. Proven abilities in strategic written storytelling or reporting. Management of social media channels for a business, school, or organization is a preferred qualification.

Skills and the Know-How

The ideal person will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong knowledge of social media channels.
Strong knowledge of news media, writing, and reporting standards.
Solid understanding of effective marketing techniques.
Able to communicate clearly and effectively.
Strong time-management and organizational skills.
Knowledge Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Knowledge of AP-style writing.
Preferred:

Knowledge of social media scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite.
Photography, photo editing, and digital camera proficiency.
Knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign to create and update documents and designs.

Enjoy a 3 Day weekend during the Summer! The summer 4 - day work week will begin in May and will end in July. The hours of operation will be 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Thursday. Off on Friday!
