What to Expect

This position is expected to begin around August or September2026 and continue through December 2026. Internships at Tesla are full-time, onsite roles that last a minimum of 12 weeks.
International Students: If your work authorization is via CPT, consult your school regarding your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.
About the Team
Tesla Inc. is seeking a Content Editor to join our Diagnostic Content team in Palo Alto, CA. You will be the bridge between Tesla engineering and the global service network - partnering with engineers, quality teams, and product support specialists across three regions to make the information technicians need to keep vehicles on the road clear,accurate, and accessible. The content you author and edit lives in our diagnostic knowledge base, in vehicle firmware, and in customer-facing service documentation, and supports everything from hands-on troubleshooting to regulatory disclosure obligations.
What You'll Do

Partner with engineering, quality, and product support teams to create and update diagnostic content for use by non-engineers - including technicians, third-party repair shops, and customers
Edit and author across multiple content surfaces, including the diagnostic knowledge base, firmware metadata (alerts, signals, diagnostic routines, user-facing text), Theory of Operation documentation, and customer-facing alert content
Apply AI tools and editorial automation to scale review and authoringthroughput, andcontribute to the team's growing library of LLM-assisted workflows
Validate technical accuracy through structured routing and review workflows, including pull request approvals for content stored in version control
Enforce and evolve organization-wide style standards, including the externalization standards that govern which content is shared with third parties
Organize content for discoverability and diagnostic flow - including managing categorization, taxonomies, and the causal relationships between articles that drive guided troubleshooting
Support content localization across multiple regions
Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub
What You'll Bring

Required Skills
Bachelor'sin English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical / Professional Writing, Journalism, Communications, or relevant working experience
1-3 years of working experience in a related field
Demonstrated experience using AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or comparable LLMs) to draft, edit, or review content - and a willingness to develop, test, and refine prompt-driven editorial workflows for the team
Ability to edit and create documentation that isaccurate, complete, clear, specific,and asconcise as possible
Ability to explain technical concepts to peers, people from various parts of the organization, non-technical people, and third-party consumers
Can extract andcomprehendsystem operation from typical engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective (e.g., schematics, subsystem specification documents, and source-controlled metadata)
Comfortable working in a docs-as-code environment - editing Markdown or structured content in version control,openingand reviewing pull requests, and merging through approval workflows
Excellent analytical, attention-to-detail, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
Elevated level of interpersonal communication skills
Strong capacity for both logical and creative thinking
Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and evaluate priorities
Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Nice to Have

Experience with docs-as-code tooling: Git, Markdown,MkDocs, or comparable static site generators
Familiarity with SQL or data visualization platforms (such as Superset or Tableau) for monitoring content health and prioritizing review work
Experience with Python for editorial automation or scripting
Familiarity with structured authoring formats (HTML, XML, DITA, JSON)
Previouswork experience with vehicle diagnostics, vehicle maintenance, or troubleshooting manuals
Experience supporting content localization or partnering with translation teams

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
