Position Summary
Strategic Communications Manager (SES) – Salary: $60,948.04 – $78,873.94 per year. The position is full-time, open-competitive, and located at the Burns Building, 605 Suwannee Street, Tallahassee, Florida.

Key Responsibilities

Develop strategic and targeted messaging for internal and external communications, including educational campaigns.

Serve as spokesperson and point of contact for FDOT media relations, responding to inquiries from the Governor’s Office, elected officials, the media, the public, and other agencies.

Plan and coordinate news events, write and edit news releases, articles, speeches, and talking points, including for the Secretary of Transportation.

Assist the Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director with strategic planning and messaging, annual strategic plans, social media strategy, and communication guidelines.

Manage and strategize internal communications initiatives to engage department members and create a cohesive culture.

Oversee department social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and produce content such as video scripts for internal communications.

Assist with managing messaging and strategy during the absence of the Communications Director and Deputy Communications Director.

Qualifications

Proficient in journalistic writing style, AP style, grammar, and punctuation.

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).

Ability to translate technical information into plain language and produce news releases, reports, and newsletters.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of social media platforms and effective public engagement.

Organizational skills: managing meetings, events, and priorities under pressure.

Mathematical proficiency for basic calculations.

Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
