The person oversees academic support services in the Lower School, including the tutoring program; reviews all testing; develops accommodation plans; works directly with students, both in and out of the classroom; and helps provide professional development for faculty members. In addition, they serve as a Learning Specialist for both the Lower and Middle Schools, and they are a member of the Lower School's Student Support Team (SST). The position requires four weeks of summer work.Student & Teacher SupportServes as a reading support teacher for the Lower School, working with individuals and small groups of students to provide specialized reading instruction using Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson ReadingManages the tutoring programHires tutors and matches students with appropriate tutorsOrients tutors in the fallCreates and maintains a schedule with time & location of all tutoring sessionsWorks with the business office to ensure payment of tutoring invoicesObserves classes and collaborates with teachers to improve pedagogy to support all learnersServes as a member of the Lower School SSTTesting and Accommodation Plan SupportOrganizes ERB test administration for Lower School in Fall, Winter, and SpringWorks with test administration to ensure that student accommodations are secured for testingProctors testing for students requiring extended timeOrganizes annual reading assessments using the DIBELS-8 reading assessment for Grades PK – 5 and tracks students' progress throughout Lower SchoolAssesses Lower School students, as needed, using resources, such as QRI, WTW Spelling Inventory, and WRMTOversees the full process of educational evaluations and accommodation plansAs appropriate, meets with families to recommend testing, review testing, and attend IEP meetingsReviews and maintains records of all student testingCreates and updates accommodation plans for individual students with testing on fileReviews accommodation plans with faculty upon creation, or prior to the start of school for incoming studentsManages individual student assessment profiles that track progress throughout the Lower School.Communication and Other DutiesAttends Lower School faculty meetingsWorks with the Admissions department on all prospective students with submitted evaluations; creates accommodation plans for each of these students; attends admissions meetings as neededParticipates in the full life of the Lower School and the larger school communityWorks closely with the Lower School Director of Teaching and Learning and the Lower School Reading Specialist to provide best practices in literacy to support classroom teacherCommunicates regularly with the Head of Lower School and members of the Lower School SST on student concerns and accommodation implementationCommunicates and meets regularly with the PK-12 Director of Academic ServicesProfessional Development, Growth, and TrainingRemains up to date in areas of special education, student support, and best pedagogical practicesAttends and participates in all Lower School faculty meetings, faculty and staff workdays, and all school-wide meetingsPursues professional development opportunities in or out of schoolDisplays willingness and ability to grow, learn, and practice self-reflectionStandard and Functional CompetenciesExcellent communication, planning, and interpersonal skillsWorks collaboratively with colleaguesResponds in a timely fashion to questions and concerns from students, parents, and staffStrong computer skills, including Apple Productivity Suite and Microsoft Office SuiteFluent with technology, including the School's learning management systems and educational or assistive technology that supports student progressKnowledge and Skill Set RequirementsExtensive knowledge of special educationCertified in Orton-Gillingham or Wilson ReadingFive years minimum experience in a student support role and an administrative roleExcellent writing skillsMaintains a collaborative spirit and brings a positive attitude and enthusiasm to work each dayBachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Special Education or Reading is preferredPosition Type: Full-timeSalary: $60,000 to $100,000 Per YearJob Categories: Special Education > Consulting TeacherJob RequirementsAt least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.Master degree preferred.Citizenship, residency or work visa requiredContact InformationCecelia Pan69 Middlesex RoadChestnut Hill, Massachusetts 02467Phone: 617-264-1423Email: cpan@brimmer.org#J-18808-Ljbffr
