Technical Writer - Level 3 | Lockheed Martin

A Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation that supports joint programs and initiatives across multiple stakeholders (e.g., internal engineering teams, government partners, and prime contractors). This role builds on foundational writing skills and adds a focus on cross-functional coordination, compliance with defense documentation standards, and the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, user-friendly content.
Author and update system specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), user manuals, maintenance procedures, and test reports for joint programs. Work closely with engineers, program managers, quality assurance, and external partners to gather technical data, resolve ambiguities, and ensure documentation reflects the latest design baselines. Apply applicable standards (e.g., DoD SDLC, MIL-STD-498, DODAF, JAD, and corporate style guides) and ensure all deliverables meet security classification and export-control requirements. Coordinate peer-review cycles, incorporate feedback from subject-matter experts, and verify technical accuracy through bench-level or simulation data where applicable.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $77,700 - $136,965. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
