Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Operations provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for the operations department. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and well maintained educational facilities and grounds that support student success.
Responsibilities
Direct department operations including recruiting, hiring, training and conducting performance evaluations to foster a highly effective and safety conscious workforce
Oversee both routine maintenance and capital improvement projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within scope and on budget
Analyzes departmental expenditures to maximize district resources
Write specifications for purchases or repairs and evaluate vendor bids to ensure best value
Manage safety, regulatory compliance and maintenance programs for athletic fields and common grounds; coordinate facility usage and leasing agreements with outside organizations
Oversee and evaluate third-party operations contractors to ensure high-quality compliance with district standards
Procure equipment, supplies and materials needed to complete jobs efficiently
Lead the district safety committee, implement preventative operational solutions and proactively mitigate facility risks
Partner closely with district administration to develop facilities plans, project designs and construction initiatives
Provide oversight for critical weather operations (including snow removal) and remain on call to coordinate emergency response efforts 24/7
Inspects or participates with administering general facility maintenance work
Other job related duties as assigned by district leadership
Required Experience, Skills and Abilities
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, related experience in facilities management, operations or construction leadership. Experience in a public school setting preferred
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, inspire and manage a large diverse team of employees
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain professional, collaborative relationships with district staff, administration and community stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to handle information with utmost confidentiality
Strong active listening skills sufficient to effectively address inquiries, navigate complaints and respond appropriately
Superior organizational and time-management skills, with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple competing priorities
Must be resilient and capable of working across all weather conditions and climates
Work Environment
12 month position
Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Support Services
Exempt
Minimum Salary: $97,470 (higher placement based on prior relevant experience)
