Assistant Editor - Adventist Review

The assistant editor of the Adventist Review works under the direction of one of the associate editors on a variety of tasks, many of them routine, in preparing articles for the Adventist Review. Primarily an "in house" editor, with less travel around North America and abroad than an associate editor. The assistant editor of the Adventist Review nonetheless has a high church profile, carries important responsibilities, and is expected to be available for public speaking appointments or serving as a resource person. The duties and influence extend much wider than the preparation of articles for the Adventist Review.
Full-time exempt position with benefits. Remuneration Range: 89-104% ($86K - $101K annually). Salary employees receive comprehensive benefits packages, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement savings plans, etc.
Associate Editor
Essential job functions include soliciting and reviewing manuscripts for possible publication, editing articles for publication on a regular basis, writing features as assigned, proofreading page proofs for each printed issue, assisting social media posting on various platforms as well as website management and maintenance, assisting video and media production in scripting, presenting, directing, and marketing, writing an average of one editorial or column per month, plus features as assigned, speaking appointments for the Adventist Review and other appointments as assigned, external (General Conference) committee/commission appointments as assigned, planning, editing and overseeing occasional special issues through production, special projects as assigned by editor/associate editor, GC Committee appointments as assigned, being a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, maintaining a regular and reliable work schedule, and other duties as assigned.
Education and experience required include a Bachelor's (BA/BS) required, English, journalism or related field preferred. Graduate degree in a related field preferred. Must have a track record of published articles. Journalistic or ministerial/teaching type experience essential.
Knowledge skills and abilities include extensive knowledge of principles, policies, and beliefs of the General Conference and the Church. Knowledge and skill in appropriate methods of dealing with human behavior in various circumstances. Advanced command of English language skills including proficiency in verbal and written forms. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, and basic knowledge of Adobe programs such as InCopy and InDesign. A knowledge of Slack software and WordPress is also helpful. Sound judgment, high output, well organized, ability to make decisions under pressure, disciplined to meet deadlines, ability to write well, good editorial skills, team player, and capable public speaker.
