Overview
Department: Marketing & Communications (MARCOM)

Reports To: Director of Communications

Position Summary
The Social Media Specialist supports social media strategy through the development of channel-specific content, audience engagement and platform execution for the Marketing & Communications (MARCOM) department. This role manages day-to-day social publishing, community engagement and campaign support across NATA’s social channels. Working closely with internal teams, the Social Media Specialist translates communications priorities into engaging social content that drives awareness, increases engagement and supports membership goals. The role serves as the department’s subject matter resource for social media planning and execution, audience engagement, platform best practices and content optimization.

Key Responsibilities
Social Strategy & Campaign Execution

Translate communications priorities into channel-specific social media plans and content

Manage and maintain a rolling social content calendar across platforms

Execute paid and organic social campaigns that support membership goals, organizational initiatives and key deadlines

Support real-time social coverage and content needs related to events, announcements and emerging priorities

Content Creation & Community Engagement

Write, edit and publish content across NATA’s social media channels

Develop social-first content and adapt long-form organizational messaging into engaging, platform-specific social content, including graphics, short-form video and campaign assets, partnering with the graphic designer for visual assets

Monitor and respond to social engagement while identifying audience trends, engagement opportunities and emerging issues

Support ambassador engagement and identify opportunities to expand and amplify user-generated content

Performance Tracking & Optimization

Track and report on social media performance, identify relevant KPIs and recommend opportunities for optimization

Use performance data and platform insights to refine content strategy, messaging and posting cadence

Test and optimize content formats, headlines and calls to action to improve engagement and campaign performance

Reporting Structure & Collaboration

Reports to the Director of Communications

Collaborates across departments to support aligned messaging, campaigns and organizational priorities

Coordinates with internal teams, external partners and sponsors to support campaign visibility and social amplification

Tools, Systems & Platforms Used

HubSpot (primary social management platform)

Native social platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook)

Canva and Adobe Creative Suite

Microsoft 365

Drupal (nata.org)

AI assisted tools (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT)

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in marketing, communications, or related field

Experience managing social media accounts for a brand, organization, or association

Proven ability to plan and execute social campaigns, not just schedule or publish content

Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone and clarity

Experience using social media publishing, engagement and analytics tools

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and real-time communications needs

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an association, nonprofit, or membership-based organization

Experience supporting event promotion and deadline-driven campaigns

Basic design and video editing skills

Familiarity with multi-channel marketing and campaign coordination across social, email, web and paid media

Travel Requirements
May be required to travel to the NATA Convention, committee meetings, site visits, or other events as needed.

Salary
$65-75k

Location
This is a hybrid position located in the DFW, TX area.
