Communications Specialist I
About This Role
This position is the link between police officers and dispatch. The position answers the phone, assists customers and then relays appropriate information to the officer in the field utilizing police band radio and additional law‑easing designated communication systems.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma (or equivalent).
Hearing correctable to a range that allows normal radio and telephone conversation with field units.
Vision correctable to a range that allows reading of computer display terminals, maps, and printouts quickly and accurately.
Free of felony convictions.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior first responder (law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services) dispatching experience.
Ability to handle high pressure and stressful situations that require rapid independent decisions.
Ability to write effectively, read and comprehend critical information, and above‑average communication skills.
Prior public relations experience due to the high volume of public interaction.
24 hours of college credit.
Strong computer skills to work in a paperless environment.
Ability to pass NCIC test for certification within 6 months of employment.
Maintain NCIC certification with a minimum score of 85% on the test.
Complete KSUPD Training Program with a minimum 85% on the final review.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Sponsorship Eligibility
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
