Overview
Reporting to the Technical Production Manager, the Lead Audio Visual Technician manages sound reinforcement, live audio mixing, and live video production to support the event production needs of the Conservatory and Preparatory.
Responsibilities
Support day-to-day operation of performances for the Conservatory and the Preparatory, producing over 1000 events including master classes, rehearsals, performances (music, dance, and opera), and student recitals.
Assist in all aspects of production activities; primary duties related to sound reinforcement, live audio mixing, and live video production.
Act as liaison among conductors, artistic directors, guest artists, musicians, dancers, and staff to ensure an excellent and safe production.
Manage inventory and allocation of all sound and video equipment based on needs and requests of various shows.
Support stage production, sound, lighting, and technical needs of rehearsal and performances, including setting up audiovisual equipment, video screens, projectors, and video switchers.
Assist in planning and coordination of events requiring A/V support, advising and collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and guest artists to determine event needs.
Independently manage a number of public stage events.
Provide production support for events (e.g., setting up stages, risers, audiovisual equipment, stage lighting, orchestras) including chorus, opera, run-outs, ensembles, and dance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
Four years related experience.
Ability for education to substitute for experience and equivalency criteria per Johns Hopkins University policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Three to five years of experience in live audio mixing, sound reinforcement, live video production and setup.
Experience in live classical and modern music productions and knowledge of concert etiquette.
