National Newscast Producer, The National News Desk

About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic producer for a Washington, D.C.-based national morning newscast. The goal is to offer audiences on multiple platforms something different, coverage that matters and cannot be found elsewhere.

Responsibilities

Assist day‑to‑day production of assigned newscasts.

Work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, and Assignment Desk on newscast content.

Contribute story content to newscasts and digital platforms.

Generate daily story ideas and contribute to editorial meetings.

Conduct interviews via phone, email, Skype, or other methods.

Participate in regular content planning and post digital content daily.

Support breaking‑news events, taking direction and working efficiently under deadline.

Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Requirements

Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

Energy and positivity.

Ability to take direction and work efficiently during breaking news events.

Team‑oriented work ethic.

Self‑starter capable of generating daily story ideas.

Video editing and graphic creation for newscast.

Strong flexibility and ability to work under deadline and on a flexible schedule.

Story idea contribution to daily editorial meetings.

Regular content planning and digital platform posting.

Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years producing engaging television newscasts at commercial news operations.

Excellent communication skills.

Proficiency with non‑linear editing (e.g., Avid) and newsroom systems such as iNews.

Journalism degree preferred.

Ability to learn and execute news strategies and goals daily.

Flexibility and on‑the‑spot problem‑solving abilities.

Provide examples of newscasts produced demonstrating exceptional creativity (include a link to your work).
