Job Description
KNBC4 & KVEA52 are looking for an Assignment Desk Editor. The candidate will work in a duopoly environment, coordinating news teams, managing stories and field crews, and providing coverage status to management while building a network of contacts across the Los Angeles DMA.
Responsibilities
Break stories, work contacts, and react quickly and aggressively to breaking news; gather information for newscasts and set up stories in advance.
Monitor police, emergency scanners, and electronic/printed sources for news.
Develop enterprise story ideas and work with reporters and producers to execute coverage.
Participate in daily planning meetings and create short‑range planning to meet editorial goals.
Facilitate the news‑gathering process, dispatch crews, and coordinate reporters, photographers, and field staff.
Set up and coordinate live remotes inside and outside the building; multi‑task to meet deadlines.
Monitor journalistic and editorial elements of newsgathering, communicate status to production staff and management.
Monitor blogs, social media, and local papers for potential stories and compile a list of possible follow‑up topics.
Develop and cultivate community contacts and sources; cooperate with NBC News and other NBC‑owned stations.
Coordinate with the digital team to provide real‑time information and video feeds in parity with the linear newsroom.
Assist with pending visual elements for reporters and newsroom personnel.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
At least 4 years of experience in a broadcast news environment, coordinating assignments and generating story ideas.
Two years’ experience as an Assignment Editor.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Eligibility Requirements

Self‑starter with good telephone skills, excellent organization, strong news judgment, and decisiveness under stress.
Knowledge of logistics for deploying personnel and equipment for electronic news gathering.
Additional Requirements
Required On‑Site: This position is full‑time at an NBCUniversal‑designated worksite.
Salary Range
$65,000 to $85,000.
