Job Overview
Position: Social Media Coordinator – McCausland College of Arts and Sciences, University of South Carolina
Location: Columbia, SC. Full‑time, 37.5 hrs/week. Monday‑Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage strategic digital content that supports the college’s marketing and communications goals.
Produce, schedule, and distribute content across social media and digital platforms ensuring consistent messaging, brand alignment, and effective audience engagement.
Act as primary point of contact for all college social media platforms, ensuring timely, strategic, and brand‑aligned content delivery.
Capture high‑quality visual content at events, classes, and institutional activities using cameras or mobile devices.
Conduct interviews with students, faculty, and staff to develop compelling narratives.
Coordinate and facilitate video production, including recording and arranging production support.
Maintain and manage the college’s social media content calendar for coordinated communications.
Monitor emerging social media trends, analyze content performance, and adjust strategies based on data‑driven insights.
Prepare and deliver regular reports on social media metrics and outcomes.
Coordinate social media advertising initiatives, including audience targeting, creative asset development, and budget monitoring.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the college’s communications and marketing objectives.
Education & Experience
Required: Bachelor’s degree in a job‑related field and at least 1 year of job‑related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or a related field plus 3 years of relevant work experience, or
• Master’s degree plus 1 year of relevant work experience.
Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of major social media platforms and best practices for digital content dissemination in higher education.
Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, digital media editing (photo and video), design software, and web‑based tools for managing and scheduling social media content.
Strong written communication and editorial skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and audience‑appropriate content.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
Experience capturing high‑quality visual content using cameras or mobile devices.
