About the Opportunity
The Storytelling Department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an on‑site

Social Media Content Creator.

The Social Media Content Creator is responsible for capturing and producing fast‑paced, high‑quality, social‑first video content that reflects the energy, personality, and voice of West Virginia University. This role is built for someone who lives and breathes social media and who understands trends as they happen, can move quickly from idea to execution, and is comfortable creating content in real‑time across campus. Success in this role means consistently delivering engaging, platform‑native content at the speed social demands, while contributing fresh ideas that keep WVU relevant and competitive in the digital space.

Wellness programs

What You’ll Do

Capture and produce short‑form video content and photography across campus, events, and day‑to‑day moments

Edit and deliver content quickly—often same‑day or next‑day turnaround

Identify and execute social media trends in a way that aligns with WVU’s brand voice

Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Social Media to bring creative concepts to life

Work closely with the Social Media Manager to ensure content is optimized and ready for publishing

Proactively pitch ideas based on trends, campus culture, and opportunities

Maintain a steady pipeline of content that supports both planned campaigns and real‑time moments

Qualifications

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in content creation

Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong video editing skills, particularly with Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar tools)

Ability to shoot high‑quality content on both camera equipment and iPhone

Excellent ability to shoot high quality content on camera equipment such as Sony A7V etc.

Deep familiarity with platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and emerging trends

A strong sense of pacing, storytelling, and what performs well on social

Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality

Self‑starter who can take direction and run with it without needing constant oversight

Comfortable working in fast‑paced, sometimes unpredictable environments (events, campus moments, etc.)

Currently FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certified or ability to obtain certification upon hire

Requirements
Valid Driver's License
