About the Role
The Company is in search of a Vice President of Strategic Communications to play a pivotal role in establishing the organization as a national leader in fostering constructive dialogue within the higher education sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the company's mission and revenue goals. This hands-on position requires a senior leader with 10-12 years' experience in strategic communications, a strong network of media relationships, and a proven track record in building organizational reputation, particularly in complex and politically sensitive environments. The VP will be tasked with setting the annual communications and thought leadership strategy, serving as a trusted advisor to the executive team, and ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging across all external channels.
Key responsibilities for the role include elevating the company's executive and thought leadership profile, leading earned media efforts, and managing crisis communications with a focus on protecting the organization's reputation. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and editor, with the ability to produce and oversee high-quality long-form thought leadership and executive communications. They should be a hands-on operator with a builder mindset, capable of establishing and evolving the communications function, and experienced in managing a team. The role also involves cross-functional collaboration, particularly with the research, marketing, and partnerships teams, and a deep commitment to the company's mission of promoting constructive dialogue and collaboration across ideological lines. Familiarity with the higher education landscape is strongly preferred.
