We are seeking a Field Service Representative who is passionate about the ocean and looking to have an impact on how people understand and explore this critical habitat. Your mechanical aptitude and boating experience will be key to your success in this role. This role is customer‑facing, requiring strong technical expertise, professional communication, and a proactive problem‑solving mindset. You will work closely with customers, engineers, and field operators, ensuring seamless deployments, technical support, and hands‑on operation of WAM‑V® USVs and OPT’s PowerBuoys®. This position is a

in‑office role

in Richmond, CA, with frequent domestic and international travel to support customer operations and deployments worldwide.

Responsibilities

Perform crewed and uncrewed vessel operation and maintenance in domestic and international locations

Provide quayside and offshore support for PowerBuoy® deployment preparations, deployment and recovery as needed

Provide technical customer support for WAM‑V® products

Participate in global customer delivery and training

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues with WAM‑V® systems and perform minor field modifications as required

Assist with packing, shipping, and receiving of boats and equipment to and from operations in the field

Prepare as‑built documentation, packing lists, and quality control records

Follow operational and manufacturing best practices for the marine environment and robotics systems

Design, set up, and maintain dedicated workstations, manufacturing jigs, and tools

Required Qualifications

Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for deployments lasting 1–4+ weeks at a time, including occasional short‑notice assignments

Approximately 3 years of hands‑on experience with mechanical and low voltage systems

Proficiency with small hand and power tools

Familiarity with marine mechanical and electrical assemblies

Experience operating and maintaining small boats in coastal environments, including docking, trailering, routine maintenance, and safe vessel operations; minimum of 2 years of boating experience preferred

Current state‑sponsored Boater Card, or ability to study for and obtain one

Ability to operate independently and take ownership of tasks and outcomes while exercising sound judgment and recognizing when to seek additional support or guidance

Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and a team‑oriented mindset; able to remain calm, effective, and solution‑focused in demanding field environments

Valid U.S. Passport

Valid U.S. Driver's License

Desired Qualifications

Experience conducting field operations in remote locations, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and mission support under challenging environmental conditions

Familiarity with IP‑based networking, including device configuration, network troubleshooting, and communications systems used in remote or autonomous operations

Experience supporting prototype development and testing through electromechanical assembly, machining, welding, and hardware integration

Familiarity or experience with uncrewed systems

Bachelor's or Associate degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, marine engineering, or a related field

Experience as a qualified trainer / instructor

Ability to attain U.S. security clearance
