Senior Software Engineer, CNN Ad Experiences

About the Job

Senior Software Engineer position for the Ad Experiences team at CNN. The role focuses on building digital advertisement experiences to support a premium news experience and enable new capabilities that improve revenue, web performance, and resiliency of advertisements on CNN.
Responsibilities

Daily full‑stack development using JavaScript, HTML, CSS with a focus on semantic code, accessibility, and responsive design.
Own, implement, develop, and maintain complete high‑priority features with thorough testing.
Work in an agile environment – participate in Scrum, planning, retrospectives, and demos.
Conduct code reviews, pair programming, and facilitate knowledge transfer.
Essentials

Deep understanding of engineering best practices, design patterns, code reviews, testing, and alerting.
Proficiency on the command line with Git, Docker, and AWS.
Unit testing experience with Jest, Jasmine, or Mocha.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Passion for continuous code improvement and eagerness to learn new challenges.
Nice to Haves

Experience with advertisement development and integration.
Advanced knowledge of AWS services or other cloud platforms.
Knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL.
Experience with A/B testing and consumer testing platforms.
Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and atomic design.
Knowledge of other modern languages, frameworks, platforms, APIs, and SDKs.
Knowledge of operations, CI/CD, DevOps, including escalation protocols, PagerDuty, Kubernetes, Jenkins, CodePipeline, etc.
