Job Summary
WEAU 13 News, the Gray Media-owned NBC‑affiliate in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is seeking a Broadcast Engineer/IT Technician. The engineer supports all live and taped programming and post‑production, performs quality control measurements to ensure proper video and audio quality, and assists the local production team's needs. The role requires troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing studio and editing equipment, interacting with production staff daily, and following WEAU and FCC standards and guidelines.
Responsibilities
Manage all engineering aspects of the technical facility, including studio support, post‑editing systems, field production support, and transmission of live/taped events & programs.
Provide expert knowledge of equipment, technology, and systems, and assist in emergency situations.
Perform regular maintenance tasks, including repairs, equipment replacement, and managing supplies.
Document and execute necessary corrective actions.
Ensure all transmission equipment operates correctly during live event telecasts; correct, document, and report technical problems.
Maintain compliance with applicable regulations and keep discrepancy logs and incident reports; audit documents to identify areas for improvement.
Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing and implementing engineering projects.
Insert and remove control‑room rack equipment weighing 25‑50 pounds with assistance.
Collaborate with General Manager and corporate leadership to implement new technologies and infrastructure.
Maintain building needs.
Have working knowledge of the latest operating systems, including server and desktop platforms.
Be familiar with networking, routing, and IP addressing.
Be available for breaking news, severe weather, system integrations, updates, and provide 24/7 on‑call services.
Qualifications
Clean driving record and drug‑free status.
Associate’s degree in electronics technology or an IT field preferred, but not required.
Strong leadership skills and ability to operate under high pressure.
Commanding knowledge of video and audio equipment and techniques.
Commanding knowledge of Windows operating systems and network management.
Ability to learn and adapt quickly to all work situations.
Professional, communicative, highly self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and focused.
