Summary
Responsible for operating the PowerSchool student information database & software, its related products, student‑related state reporting, and supporting database users in district schools and educational facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee operation of the student information database district-wide including data entry procedures, data validation, data reporting, file back‑up, and export of data to other systems.

Train school facility users in the operation of the student database and its related products from remote locations and on site.

Maintain, troubleshoot, and update database software and its related products to provide consistent and reliable student data on enrollment, attendance, grading, and other student-related information.

Design and execute complex queries to extract data and information for reporting and analysis. Provide reports and related information from the database for school personnel, central office staff, and the State Department of Education.

Plan and orchestrate meetings of district users to share and disseminate information regarding operation and maintenance of the database.

Serve as a resource to administrators, teachers, and other school personnel on matters of student information, database operation, data reporting, and other data needs as may be required.

Work with other members of the Technology Services Department and the City Information Systems Department to coordinate hardware operations and other technical requirements.

Pursue ongoing education and training necessary to support database products and other contemporary technologies utilized by the school district and update individual computer skills.

Education and/or Experience

Associates Degree (A.S.) in Computer Science with emphasis on database administration or equivalent. (Preferred)

Demonstrated understanding of PowerSchool SIS including reporting and data import/export techniques. (Preferred)

Successful work experience in supporting contemporary software products for Windows/Linux‑based computers in medium to large organizations.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
Oracle Database Certification, PowerSchool SIS Certification, or other technology‑related certifications. (Preferred)

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and to present information and respond to questions from groups and the general public as required.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and related disciplines. Ability to apply such concepts, and basic concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, using education, experience, and creativity. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to operate personal computers, network equipment, and other forms of technology.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of database operation to district operation of technology resources.

Demonstrated knowledge and strong proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Access are required.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.

Good, effective communication skills including the ability to maintain confidential information.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents/guardians.

Ability to handle stressful situations and work within difficult time constraints on demand.
