Overview WCBD TV is an NBC Affiliate Station owned by Nexstar Media Inc., located in Charleston, SC.
Responsibilities Produce, report, shoot, write, voice, edit, and feed news production content for all platforms.
Report news stories for broadcast, describing background and details of events.
Arrange interviews with source persons relevant to stories.
Review copy, correct errors in content, grammar, punctuation, following editorial style and formatting guidelines.
Evaluate notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details.
Determine story emphasis, length, and format; organize material accordingly.
Research and analyze background information related to news stories.
Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, and social functions.
Pitch stories to news managers and producers relevant to the local community.
Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
Discuss priorities with producers and/or news managers.
Check reference materials such as books, news files, or public records for relevant facts.
Revise work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements.
Shoot and edit news events and news reports.
Produce and present reports for all platforms.
Ensure content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
Write stories for the web and other eMedia platforms.
Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Fluency in English.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to ad lib when required.
Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (depending on market size).
Superior on‑air presence.
Proficiency with computers and other office equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Flexibility to work any shift.
