Overview

DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT MARKETING, HEALTH CARE & BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION. RPA San Diego operates as a third‑party administration (TPA), consulting, and strategic management branch for collectively bargained benefit plans, pooled purchasing arrangements, and trusts. Our mission is to deliver high‑quality, affordable, and accessible health care to our members.

Position Summary

The Director of Product Marketing is a people‑leading, player‑coach role responsible for guiding and executing product marketing for assigned client health care and benefits administration products/offerings. This role backfills an existing Director position and translates strategy into execution while actively contributing alongside the team. It manages a cross‑disciplinary marketing pod, including a Digital Marketing & Communications Specialist and a Copywriter, and ensures that product messaging, campaigns, and content are clear, accurate, compliant, and aligned to our clients’ mission and brand. A key component is internal education and alignment to ensure cross‑functional teams understand product positioning, value propositions, and intended use cases. The role translates complex health care and benefits concepts into compelling, human‑centered messaging that supports informed decision‑making by employers, districts, unions, and members. It operates within a defined scope of responsibility, collaborating with senior marketing leadership on strategy while owning execution, launches, enablement, and performance optimization for assigned products and initiatives.

Product Positioning, Messaging, & Go‑To‑Market Efforts

  • Execute product positioning and messaging for assigned health care and benefits administration offerings
  • Translate complex health care, benefits, and regulatory concepts into clear, human‑centered value propositions
  • Lead strategic development & execution of go‑to‑market plans for products, enhancements, and initiatives
  • Coordinate product launches across digital, content, and external touchpoints
  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and compliance across all product‑related messaging and storytelling

Internal Education, Enablement, & Cross‑Functional Alignment

  • Ensure cross‑functional teams clearly understand product positioning, value propositions, and intended use cases
  • Develop and deliver practical internal education, including positioning summaries, frameworks, and reference materials
  • Lead internal walkthroughs and refreshers as products evolve or new initiatives launch
  • Reinforce consistent product messaging with Sales, Client Services, Product, and Marketing teams
  • Identify and address gaps or inconsistencies in how products are described internally

People Leadership & Performance Optimization

  • Lead and develop a small cross‑disciplinary team currently consisting of a Digital Marketing & Communications Specialist and a Copywriter
  • Act as a player–coach, contributing directly to messaging, launch execution, and campaign development
  • Guide digital marketing execution to ensure effective deployment across owned, earned, and internal channels
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to support aligned execution and decision‑making
  • Track and assess marketing performance, using data and feedback to improve effectiveness and ROI
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

About You

Education, Training, and Experience

  • 6–8 years of product marketing experience, with direct experience in health care or benefits administration required
  • Prior people leadership experience, including managing digital marketers and/or writers
  • Demonstrated success guiding product marketing execution through digital and content teams
  • Experience collaborating cross‑functionally with Product, Business Development, Client and Member Services, and Marketing teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to internal stakeholders
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate and improve marketing performance
  • Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., Project, Basecamp)
  • CRM and collaboration platforms such as Salesforce and Microsoft Teams
  • Marketing automation and analytics tools (e.g., Marketo, Pardot, Google Analytics)

Compensation And Benefits

We offer a competitive and comprehensive compensation package. The base salary range represents the anticipated low end and high end of the range for this position. The actual compensation will be influenced by a wide range of factors including, but not limited to previous experience, education, pay market/geography, complexity or scope, specialized skill set, lines of business/practice area, supply/demand, and scheduled hours.
