What You 0Will Own

Editorial vision and standards
Define what Cohere publishes, why, and to what standard. Be the standard-bearer for every piece of long-form work before it ships. Develop a clear editorial sensibility and map it to Cohere's broader brand strategy without flattening into it. Internally, ensure people understand what would be rejected and why.

Voice and how Cohere sounds
Own how Cohere sounds in everything we publish. Maintain the distinctive brand voice and ensure execution in sentence-by-sentence writing. Be able to assess whether a piece sounds like us and articulate why or why not.

Publishing calendar and operations (the science)
Build and run the publishing calendar across all long-form channels with annual themes, quarterly slates, and weekly cadence. Commission writers, photographers, filmmakers, and producers. Manage budgets, rights, and freelance operations. Develop measurement frameworks that respect form and avoid vanity metrics.

Long-form storytelling (the art)
Lead the creation of Cohere's most ambitious work: essays, features, profiles, films, photo essays, podcasts, and, when ready, books or print. Find stories worth telling and ensure the editorial voice remains cohesive across forms. Mix in original commentary, criticism, and reporting with a point of view.

Owned media properties
Take ownership of Cohere's site, newsletter, and content channels. Align blog and brand surfaces to feel like one publisher with a shared sensibility, whether long-form essays, customer stories, product writing, films, or photography. Build a real readership of subscribers who open the emails.

Internal storytelling
Act as Cohere's internal and external storytelling leader. Translate marketing strategy into compelling internal updates, all-hands, kickoff memos, and leadership communications with the same editorial care as external work. Ensure the company vision is accessible to everyone involved in building products.

Contributor network
Develop and grow a roster of staff editors, writers, and a freelance bench of creators. Cultivate relationships so contributors seek collaboration and improved work through your editorial guidance.

Partnership with Brand, Design, and Social
Coordinate with Brand Marketing, Design, and Social leads to align editorial with brand strategy and campaigns. Ensure editorial and social voices feel like they come from the same publisher.

Team leadership
Inherit and develop the editorial team, manage external partners, and set a high-standard editorial culture that motivates rather than punishes.

How Success Will Be Measured
Depth and reach of editorial work, reader growth, cadence adherence, and engagement metrics. Track quality against explicit standards, calendar adherence, readership metrics, and cultural impact. Maintain a standard that could hold up in a magazine you’d actually read.

  • Experience writing or commissioning work about technology, science, or AI for a general audience.
  • A point of view on publishing in the age of generative AI without a defensive stance.
  • Experience launching a publication, imprint, or owned-media property from scratch.

If some requirements don 0don 0line up perfectly, we still encourage you to apply. We value diversity and strive for an inclusive environment. Accommodations requests during recruitment can be submitted via an Accommodations Request Form.

We may use AI-enabled tools to screen and assess applicants, but this does not limit the applications our recruiters review.
