KTVZ News is seeking an Assistant News Director to help lead the day‑to‑day operations of our award‑winning newsroom. This role requires a dynamic, forward‑thinking leader who will drive daily content, guide coverage decisions, and ensure strong breaking and developing news coverage.


Responsibilities



  • Drive daily content and guide coverage decisions.

  • Ensure strong breaking and developing news coverage.

  • Collaborate with reporters on story development and with producers to create compelling newscasts.

  • Lead by example, fostering a positive newsroom culture while coaching, mentoring, and inspiring staff at all levels in partnership with the News Director.

  • Manage multiple priorities in high‑pressure situations with composure and flexibility, including on‑call duties across mornings, evenings, and weekends.


Qualifications



  • At least two years of broadcast newsroom experience, including one year in a leadership role.

  • Solid understanding of media ethics and legal standards.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a solutions‑oriented mindset.

  • Must pass a pre‑employment background check and drug screen.

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain one (required for driving news vehicles).

  • Flexibility to adjust schedules for breaking news and coverage demands.
