Overview
The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students who speak over 60 languages at home. The district includes 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, making it the fifth largest district in Kansas. More than 1,800 teachers are employed to meet the educational needs of a diverse student population that is 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian.
Job Goal

Essential Functions
Implement 21st‑Century Skills into the curriculum.
Work a full duty day in assigned location(s).
Assess student abilities in relation to desired educational goals.
Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instruction/learning strategies.
Manage classroom behavior and support student behavior across the school.
Communicate instructional expectations and student progress to students and parents.
Maintain assessment and evaluation documentation for individuals and the institution.
Collaborate with school personnel on instructional goals and curriculum.
Participate in professional growth, staff meetings, and in‑service activities.
Maintain student progress records and submit reports accurately.
Ensure the classroom environment is safe and conducive to learning.
Participate in extracurricular activities as requested by the principal.
Attend IEP meetings for IDEA students as a regular teacher.
Possess good knowledge of instructional content, curriculum, and materials.
Understand student growth and development for assigned grades.
Know the school’s program of studies, mission, and goals.
Keep up with current research and theory.
Plan lessons based on curriculum objectives and student needs.
Establish effective relationships with students, parents, and peers; act as a family advocate.
Communicate orally and in writing skillfully.
Display excellent human relations skills.
Maintain physical and emotional ability to perform job duties in a fast‑paced environment.
Move effectively around the classroom to monitor work and behavior.
Be patient, caring, and dedicated to student success.
Take attendance and keep records per Board policy.
Know and follow Section 504 and IDEA amendments.
Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times.
Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Meet the employment qualifications set forth by the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education.
Hold a Kansas teaching certificate in the relevant content area and instructional responsibility.
Communication / Organization
Maintain communication with school personnel, students, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action that meets student educational needs.
Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with varied variables when limited standardization exists; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule instructions.
Language Skills
Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Write reports, curriculum, and correspondence; present information and respond to inquiries from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public.
Physical Demands
