Position Summary
The Executive Director, Enterprise Sports Sponsorship Strategy and Activation serves as the Enterprise authority on sports sponsorship strategy, portfolio design, and activation. The role is responsible for shaping the long-term sponsorship vision into disciplined execution that maximizes brand equity and business value. The Leader will bring significant industry depth in evaluating sponsorship opportunities, negotiating and managing complex partnerships, building activation and go-to-market strategies, and structuring governance practices for a major brand. The Executive Director will stand up and lead the Enterprise Sports Sponsorships practice end-to-end from strategy development through execution, measurement, and reporting, ensuring enterprise sponsorship investments are aligned, optimized, and leveraged across the company.
Primary Role and Responsibilities
Develop, govern, and implement the enterprise sports sponsorship strategy that aligns with brand and business objectives.
Build and operationalize a scalable sports sponsorship capability and practice, including strategic planning, stakeholder management, governance frameworks, measurement methodology, performance dashboards, and cross‑functional operating models.
Serve as the enterprise expert on sports sponsorship evaluation, asset valuation, contract structure, and deal negotiation – ensuring CVS Health secures maximum brand and financial value.
Provide expert guidance to executive leadership on sponsorship opportunities, risks, investment levels, and ROI.
Partner closely with Marketing, Merchandising, Brand, Government Affairs, Communications, and Legal to ensure sponsorships are strategically integrated and consistently executed to maximize impact and performance against business and brand objectives.
Identify, recommend, negotiate, manage, and optimize high‑value partnerships across leagues, teams, venues, media partnerships, and outside agencies that align with the brand and vision.
Analyze market trends and competitor activities to stay ahead in the industry.
Required Qualifications
12+ years of progressive experience in sports sponsorship strategy and partnership management with a proven track record of leading sponsorship portfolios for major brands, leagues, or agencies.
Deep expertise in the sports sponsorship industry, including asset valuation, contract structure, partnership negotiation, rights management, and activation best practices.
Demonstrated experience designing, operationalizing, and scaling a sponsorship or partnership practice – ideally across a large, complex, multi‑business organization.
Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to assess sponsorship opportunities, build long‑term portfolio strategies, and translate enterprise goals into actionable plans.
Hands‑on execution experience, including leading cross‑functional activation, overseeing agency/external partners, and ensuring best‑in‑class delivery across multiple channels and business units.
Proven ability to analyze performance data, build measurement frameworks, and use insights to guide investment decisions and optimize ROI.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, highly matrixed environment – balancing strategic leadership with operational execution.
Strong leadership and talent development capability – coaching teams, building new capabilities, and establishing governance models and best practices for a newly established team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within a large enterprise or Fortune 50 environment.
Strong network across leagues, teams, properties, and sports marketing agencies.
Experience leading high‑value partnerships across multiple sports verticals (e.g., NFL, MLB, USSF, venue rights).
Travel Requirements
Travel is a component of the role, with a minimum of 25% expected for team activities, visits to stadiums, and engagement with other business segments as needed.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, sports management, or a related field is required.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is: $131,500.00 – $303,195.00. This range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above and includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
