Job Title: Morning Show Anchor - Dayton Radio
Position Overview
1290 and 95.7 WHIO, Dayton's News and Talk, has an immediate opening for a MorningShow Anchor. You will join our award‑winning Miami Valley’s Morning News team and be a critical on‑air contributor to the product. You'll co-anchor our 4‑hour, live, local morning news show. You will produce and deliver news on weekday mornings. We are looking for someone that possesses a friendly and confident delivery that can engage in warm, conversational banter with the other members of the morning show team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Writes, stacks, pre‑reads and edits news used on the air. This includes help creating show rundown, writing and creating news stories
- Demonstrates excellent writing skills (fair, balanced, clear, concise and correct)
- Demonstrates ability of self‑directed story selection/writing/editing following management guidelines
- Collaborates with reporters in other platforms to co‑produce stories
- Deliver news copy on air with a conversational and engaging delivery
- Read and understand complex material and turn it into easily understood copy under deadline pressure
- Anchor live coverage of breaking news and/or special coverage
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Effective writing skills
- Experience editing audio
- Must be willing to work a schedule that includes holidays and non‑traditional work hours
- Ability to narrate, ad‑lib and add value to live breaking news and severe weather coverage
- Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Education and experience in radio journalism is preferred
- One year experience preferred (spot news/developing enterprise stories experience)
