Responsibilities
- Own and establish the goals, outcomes, and strategy for the SEO/AEO team, aligning with department and organizational objectives to drive measurable results.
- Build and sustain a high‑performing team culture — fostering efficiency, iteration, and collaboration.
- Develop team members' capabilities through ongoing coaching, mentorship, and guidance — helping them grow business acumen, cross‑functional partnership skills, and channel expertise.
- Identify opportunities for improvement within the team's domain, leveraging industry knowledge to evaluate and resolve operational issues and optimize processes.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with product marketing, content, growth product, and engineering teams to ensure SEO/AEO recommendations are implemented effectively and aligned with broader marketing strategy.
- Ensure the team delivers on technical SEO priorities (site hygiene, accessibility, structured data), maintaining high quality and operational excellence.
- Develop metrics and KPIs to evaluate marketing impact — analyze data to optimize strategies, inform resource allocation, and communicate progress to leadership to foster alignment and transparency.
- Influence cross‑functional partners and senior stakeholders by presenting data‑driven evidence and building alignment between SEO/AEO and broader marketing and product strategies.
- Provide direction during industry transitions (e.g., AI‑powered search, Google SGE, LLM‑driven discovery), supporting the team and cross‑functional peers in navigating change and adapting strategies to maintain Atlassian's visibility.
- Lead critical analysis of emerging risks or underperformance in organic and AI‑driven channels — identify root causes, respond to algorithm changes or competitive shifts, and guide the team to effective solutions.
- Work through cross‑functional prioritization requiring evaluation of multiple factors; apply independent judgment in selecting milestones and directing the team toward creative solutions.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of SEO experience, including 2+ years leading or managing an SEO team.
- Experience setting team‑level goals and OKRs aligned with broader organizational objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional peers and senior stakeholders (e.g., product, engineering, PMM leaders) by translating SEO insights into business language and building alignment.
- Track record of building high‑performing teams — hiring, setting expectations, giving feedback, and developing talent.
- Proven ability to scale organic search as a performance channel through a combination of content, technical SEO, and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills using tools like Google Analytics, Looker Studio, or Tableau.
- Deep proficiency with SEO platforms and tools: Google Search Console, Brightedge, Semrush, Screaming Frog, and other organic visibility tools.
- Experience with technical SEO implementation, including core areas like indexation, crawl optimization, page speed, and structured data.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information, directing creative solutions at the team level.
- Experience driving high‑performance culture and team health across distributed or remote teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of SEO experience in an enterprise B2B SaaS environment.
- Experience managing large‑scale enterprise SEO strategies for multi‑product or international B2B brands.
- Exposure to AI‑driven SEO/AEO workflows, such as content ideation, optimization, and large‑scale testing and experimentation.
- Sets aspirational yet attainable goals for self and team; consistently evaluates team‑level operational performance to optimize outcomes.
Compensation
In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $135,000 – $176,250
Zone B: $121,500 – $158,625
Zone C: $112,500 – $146,875
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
