NHPR Managing Editor – Conductor of Daily News Magazines
NHPR seeks a managing editor to lead the production and evolution of our flagship daily news magazines,

Morning Edition

and

All Things Considered . The role reports to the News Director and is based in Concord, New Hampshire. Salary range: $89,300 - $99,000 (dependent on qualifications).

Essential Duties

Oversee all editorial aspects of NHPR’s morning and afternoon weekday news magazines.

Lead a four‑person editorial team (two hosts and two producers), providing training, coaching, performance management, and mentorship.

Serve as lead editor on stories and interviews from pitch through final draft.

Ensure on‑time, flawless delivery of audio across multiple platforms.

Manage live and remote broadcasts, including election nights, debates, forums, and special programming.

Handle newsroom administrative tasks such as hiring, onboarding, and scheduling.

Other Responsibilities

Oversee or collaborate on special projects and series.

Lead group pitch meetings, storyboard creation, and editorial edits.

Work with digital and audience teams to adapt audio stories for digital and social platforms.

Partner with the News Director to improve workflows, professional development, and other operational tasks.

Participate in station fundraising activities as needed.

Qualifications

Seven to ten years of audio journalism experience (reporting, producing, editing).

Three to five years of leadership and management experience, inspiring teams to produce high‑quality work.

Excellent editorial judgment and meticulous attention to detail.

Ability to train less experienced staff and challenge seasoned staff.

Strong project‑management skills.

B.A. in a relevant field (or equivalent work experience).
