Position Overview
Responsible for directing the operations of the Acute Care Hospital Pharmacy. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards; directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceuticals and related substances/supplies; directs and participates in the department's planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resource management activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the pharmacy to support the department's operations.
- Coordinate operational efforts with hospital management to efficiently serve patients and customers.
- Encourage staff involvement in activities that contribute to corporate vision and values.
- Demonstrate a management style that emphasizes fairness, respect, and sensitivity to others, considering the common good and individual desires.
- Utilize and follow Mercy's standard hiring practices; develop job descriptions and performance standards for all pharmacy positions.
- Recognize unacceptable performance, coach individuals, develop performance improvement plans, and counsel as appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of all performances and conduct timely performance reviews.
- Facilitate conflict resolution between parties or groups.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical information.
- Plan for new services or changes/improvements in services.
- Set department goals based on organizational mission and vision.
- Encourage staff involvement in goal setting and decision-making process.
- Manage all pharmaceutical distributive functions to meet licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate manpower needs and assign staff for maximum efficiency.
- Communicate with staff one on one or in groups to share information and serve as a role model.
- Promote team effort toward providing quality care for patients served.
- Encourage creativity and innovation in staff and collaboration within and among team members.
- Coordinate narcotic issues internally and throughout the hospital with Safety Department.
- Schedule weekly assignments, holidays, and vacations for pharmacy staff with acceptable staffing.
- Follow up on Quality Improvement Reports.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in the planning and utilization of resources.
- Use financial reports to monitor day-to-day budget expenses and forecast fiscal process.
- Assist Director of Pharmacy Services in preparing annual operational and capital budgets.
- Identify measurable quality standards and monitor against them.
- Use quality improvement tools and techniques to determine changes required to minimize errors and improve quality of output.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher degree in pharmacy required.
- Licensure: Current pharmacist license from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy required; must also maintain Medication Therapy Services (MTS) certification on the license.
- Experience: Minimum three years of practice experience and at least 3 years in pharmacy leadership required.
- Certifications: Past experiences must have demonstrated leadership ability, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to apply sound principles of management and supervision.
- Preferred: Minimum 3 years of supervisory duties.
