Position Purpose
This role works within Athletics’ team of strategic communication content creators, serving as the primary contact for specific sports attending on‑ and off‑campus events. The incumbent collaborates closely with coaches and student‑athletes to craft storytelling aligned with the DCARD strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Curate content for assigned sport programs by managing social media accounts, crafting content calendars, and collaborating with other units to create artwork, graphics, and multimedia content.
Incorporate key messaging into daily content through a proactive, digital‑forward growth mindset.
Serve as the lead liaison between assigned sport programs and the External Strategy department.
Solicit feedback from sport programs and External Strategy colleagues on objectives, goals, and strategies, and facilitate the creation and distribution of content.
Coordinate multimedia student‑athlete features with other departments.
Manage public relations functions for assigned sports, promoting student‑athletes and coaches for national and conference awards.
Facilitate interviews and initiate media coverage by preparing logistics, materials, and talking points for announcers.
Maintain an ongoing understanding of industry trends, innovative platforms, and emerging media.
Develop rapport with coaching staff, student‑athletes, and media members through communication, attendance at practices, and traveling for competitions.
Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of student workers for various roles within the department, including job description development, interviews, and orientation.
Coordinate and manage staffing for all student and freelance positions related to events, scheduling and ensuring coverage across all event functions.
Directly responsible for all publicity efforts; design, write, edit, and fact‑check various communication materials.
Support backend setup and maintenance of the department’s digital platforms; serve as backup website administrator.
Compile accurate statistics for assigned sports using statistical software, manage current and historical team information (rosters, statistics, records, photos, videos).
Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus 3–5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong verbal, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
Demonstrated aptitude in social media and proactive, strategic communication.
Confidence and familiarity working with web technologies, including basic HTML and CMS tools (e.g., Sidearm).
Experience updating content, managing user access, troubleshooting technical issues, assisting with CMS configuration, and ensuring site functionality aligns with branding and accessibility standards.
Advanced knowledge of statistical programs (e.g., NCAA Live Stats, NCAA Genius, StatCrew).
Writing experience with emphasis on Associated Press style.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including late night and weekend hours.
Commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population.
Previous experience working in a college sports information office.
Effective time‑management skills.
Ability to work independently and lead projects.
Familiarity with managing social media accounts.
Driving a vehicle (Dartmouth vehicle, off‑road vehicle, rental car, personal car) is an essential function.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with more than five years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledgeable about the varsity sports offered at Dartmouth and their rules of competition.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat).
Video editing and graphic design experience.
