JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Public Relations Specialist

FLSA:

Exempt

Contract Days = 240

Salary Scale = Administrative Scale - Group 10 (Median Salary = $62,632)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Public Relations, helps plan, develop, and implements district PR initiatives and projects. We're looking for a go-getter to join our dedicated communications team at Spartanburg School District 2. Our District consists of 14 schools, and career center in the Upstate of South Carolina. The ideal candidate will be a team-player who is self-driven and can work independently to create and share stories from around our school district using a variety of multimedia formats across a wide‑array of platforms.

REPORTS TO

Director of Public Relations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Create high-impact multimedia and audiovisual content to support the district's editorial and marketing priorities, including written stories, videos, photography, graphics, livestreams, and digital media. Identify and pitch story concepts and campaigns to promote district events and successes

Gather, review and manage assignments of editorial opportunities, including but not limited to story ideas, events, and other information from departments, schools, and partners

Prepares the various D2 event calendars

Responsible for the promotion and coverage of district events as assigned

Assist in managing social media avenues, including district Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube pages. Monitors social media and provides timely responses to community questions and concerns. Supports schools and departments with social media usage, campaigns, and consultation

Be point of contact for all D2 Athletics as it pertains to digital needs and promotion

Responsible for maintaining and updating all D2 websites

Responsible for live streaming of all D2 Board meetings

Perform other duties as assigned

Other Duties

Attends School Board meetings and various other meetings to support the PR Department’s mission.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Public Relations

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree required

Minimum three (3) years of successful experience in a related field required

Must provide a portfolio of multimedia work

Must pass background check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High character individual with a heart for service

Proficiency in video production, including videography

Proficiency in photography, and photo editing

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Excellent writing, and editing skills; attention to detail is essential.

Must be able to repurpose content for multiple platforms and for various audiences.

Growth mindset and ability to work collaboratively with a small team of dedicated communications professionals.

Proficient with Google suite and PowerPoint

Capable of working effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.

Ability to meet deadlines

Excellent verbal and customer service skills

Evidence of organizational, planning, and time management skills

Ability to respond effectively to short‑notice requests and manage multiple priorities.

Flexible schedule that requires attendance at school and district events after hours and, occasionally, on weekends

WORKING CONDITIONS

Will often be at school, fine arts, and athletics events. Physical demands include general office activities and transporting video/camera equipment. Requires routine travel within the district and occasional regional travel. Work involves meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
