Sales and Business Development Manager

This role is responsible for driving profitable sales growth of capital equipment, including UPS systems, controls, switchgear, and generators. The candidate will manage complex sales cycles, lead a regional sales team and rep network, and contribute to strategic planning and business development. Key duties include coordinating with technical leadership, overseeing marketing efforts, and negotiating contracts while ensuring CRM accuracy and competitive market analysis. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient, commercially savvy electrical engineer with at least five years of sales management experience. Strong leadership, presentation, and negotiation skills are essential for success in this team-oriented, high-performance environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop profitable new capital equipment business and achieve budgeted sales levels.
Manage complex sales opportunities and system solution proposals including low and medium voltage application, UPS systems, controls, switchgear and engine generators.
Work with a regional sales team including a manufacturer representative sales channel to provide effective direction and support for sales activities.
Co‑ordinate with the Technical Sales Director to support Regional Sales Managers and their representative network sales activities as and when required.
Co‑ordinate with the Technical Sales Director to determine direct sales activities and representative network sales activities, either together or separately as and when required.
Travel on an as‑needed basis based on sales opportunities/projects.
Recruit, lead, motivate and develop all direct reports.
Contribute to the operational and strategic direction of the business as a key member of the Piller Middletown Team.
Technical Sales Engineer
Minimum Qualifications
A graduate in an appropriate technical discipline, ideally an electrical engineer.
Coordinate marketing event activities with President and CEO/Business Administrator and Technical Sales Director.
Introduce new ideas and add value to the business, planning sales strategies and tactics in coordination with the President and CEO.
Identify and target all major clients, consultants and contractors involved in specifying, selecting and purchasing rotary and static UPS systems.
Write and present technical sales tools and material for general sales use, conferences and seminars (L&L information, product and application presentations, workshops, commercial benefits, and life‑cycle data, etc.).
Define and develop local sales strategies within the umbrella of the Group Sales Strategy and contribute to the development of future Group direction.
Maintain accurate contact and sales/quotation records and update the CRM system as necessary to support Group reporting requirements.
Provide accurate and timely reports to Group/President as and when required.
Implement and manage proper and timely reporting of all field sales activities to you and the President on a weekly basis.
Participate in direct selling activities as and when appropriate.
Negotiate and close contracts as necessary, optimizing the company’s position at all times.
Properly manage the allocated budget.
Conduct routine competitive analyses, analyze specific projects and set project‑specific strategies to win business in this complex selling process.
Experience
Experience in Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems (UPS), mission‑critical facilities or other power business is a plus.
Currently in a Regional Sales Management role for a small‑to‑medium sized capital equipment company or a key account/field sales manager ready for the next step.
Five years’ experience in technical sales management.
Successful track record in selling capital equipment via consultants, contractors and end users.
Strong presentation skills.
Highly developed sales negotiation skills including commercial terms and conditions.
Profit‑motivated and able to demonstrate experience in increasing sales turnover and profit in a highly competitive market.
Commercially capable with financial and contractual matters.
Computer literate.
Conversant with the application of power electrical equipment in low and medium voltage distribution systems (US and Canada).
