Description

The Senior Transmission Engineer will lead the design of complex transmission line projects, providing technical oversight, expertise, and guidance to technical design staff.

Lead transmission design from concept through completion, covering EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop design.

Prepare transmission equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.

Lead economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance studies, and grounding calculations.

Perform required electrical clearance calculations based on NESC, California General Order 95, or other codes, and communicate NERC, FERC, and regional requirements.

Review vendor drawings, interface with suppliers, clients, other disciplines, detailers, and designers.

Participate in project scheduling, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning; manage change orders effectively.

Apply expert knowledge of transmission concepts, codes, and procedures across the industry.

Identify non‑standard design solutions for complex projects.

Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and project data, ensuring corrections in multiple CAD software.

Coordinate construction administration, resolve design-related installation issues, conduct field inspections, and test transmission systems.

Lead field inspections, installations, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.

Prepare and present technical reports to clients and industry publications.

Build relationships with clients, contractors, and customers; pursue new business opportunities and ensure customer satisfaction.

Assist in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.

Develop cost proposals and qualification statements to meet financial targets and standards.

Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates; report performance.

Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the transmission engineering practice, mentoring less experienced engineers.

Ensure QA/QC process adherence and effective communication with other disciplines.

Maintain compliance with company and site safety policies.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related ABET‑accredited program with 7 years of transmission engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program, successful FE exam, 7 years of transmission engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.

Master’s Degree in Engineering with 6 years of transmission engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.

Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques, transmission design codes, and computer skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS‑CADD, RISA‑3D, MathCADD, hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, and transmission analysis programs).

Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work to team members; ability to execute and resolve issues in a team environment.

Demonstrated critical thinking; analytical and methodical problem‑solving in a quantitative environment.

Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

Ability to travel.

Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Compensation
$155,000.00‑$240,000.00 yearly. The compensation range reflects individual education, qualifications, prior experience, and work location. It includes a base salary and eligibility for a discretionary year‑end incentive bonus.
