Job Overview
The Internal Communications Manager (ICM) advances stakeholder understanding of the university’s positions and aspirations by increasing awareness, understanding, and connection to university leadership across the entire academic community. The ICM designs communication plans to convey university messaging on strategic initiatives, coordinates with university leadership—especially in university services—to ensure accurate, timely communications, and drafts content in the voice of university leaders for students, faculty, staff, and the Georgetown community. Additionally, the ICM serves as a central resource for best practices in newsletter distribution and event promotion, actively supporting nearly 200 events and communications professionals across the University.
Responsibilities
The ICM works as a Deputy to the Director of Internal Communications and Operations Communications within the Office of Strategic Communications to protect the university brand and position. Through strategic planning and collaboration, the ICM contributes to the university’s communications strategies, generating increased visibility and awareness of the university’s objectives, goals, and positions. The ICM plays a key role in communicating on behalf of senior leaders and departments—Finance, Auxiliary Services, Facilities, and Student Affairs—to the university community.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field of study.
At least 3 to 4 years of experience in public relations, journalism, broadcasting, higher education, or non‑profit communications.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Good judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work on tight deadlines.
Flexibility, willingness to work evenings and weekends, and diplomacy in managing high‑volume communication initiatives concurrently.
Detail orientation and ability to thrive under pressure.
Salary
$47,586.00 – $87,558.13 per year (depending on qualifications, experience, education, and other factors).
