Head of Business Development

Kodu · Boston, MA, USA ·

Pay:
$135,000-$145,000/yr
Job type:
Full Time

Senior, consultative business development role within an established consultancy.

We're recruiting a Head of Business Development in Boston to help a respected product innovation studio build a consistent, high-quality new client pipeline. This role suits someone who has operated as a Business Development Director, Client Partner, or Commercial Director in professional services, and wants real ownership, founder access, and a base salary of $135,000–$145,000 plus performance incentive.

Scope of the Role

The Head of Business Development is responsible for winning new client relationships and converting senior-level conversations into well-defined consulting engagements, acting as the primary owner of new business activity.

  • Own the full business development lifecycle from targeting to close
  • Build and manage a focused target account list across consumer product companies
  • Engage VP, GM, and C‑suite stakeholders through consultative sales conversations
  • Shape opportunities alongside senior design and engineering leaders
  • Progress complex, long‑cycle professional services deals

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of Business Development, Director of Business Development, Client Partner, or Head of New Business within consulting or professional services
  • Track record selling complex, high‑value consultative services rather than standardized products
  • Credibility engaging senior executives and guiding long sales cycles
  • Strong discovery and qualification skills, including confidence to disqualify poor‑fit work
  • Comfortable operating independently while partnering closely with founders

Salary and Benefits

  • Base salary: $135,000–$145,000
  • Performance‑based incentive tied to revenue and new client acquisition
  • Medical benefits, paid time off, and paid holidays
  • Hybrid working model with regular Boston office presence expected
  • Travel for client meetings and selected industry events

You'll join a senior, close‑knit consulting team known for technical depth, creative culture, and commercially grounded outcomes. The business values long‑term client partnerships and clear commercial judgment.

In practice, this role operates much like a senior Client Partner or Commercial Director, working directly with founders, senior designers, and engineers to choose the right work and build durable client relationships.
