General Description
The Pitzer Photographer supports the Communications & Marketing team by producing high‑quality photography that advances institutional storytelling, brand consistency, and engagement across platforms. This position captures campus life, manages student photographers, maintains digital assets, and supports ethical standards related to privacy and consent.

Essential Functions
Photography & Content Creation

Capture high‑quality images of campus events, academic environments, student life, and institutional priorities

Edit and deliver photography for web, social media, print, and marketing use

Collaborate with Communications & Marketing team members to support integrated campaigns

Student Photographer Supervision

Schedule and coordinate student photographers

Provide mentorship and training in photography techniques and professional standards

Ensure consistency in image quality and brand alignment

Digital Asset Management

Upload, organize, and maintain photographic assets in the College’s digital asset management system

Apply and maintain metadata, tags, and taxonomy for efficient asset retrieval

Track usage rights, permissions, and releases

Privacy & Consent Compliance

Serve as a visible representative of the College during photography coverage

Respect and document requests from individuals who do not wish to be photographed

Maintain accurate records of opt‑out preferences within the digital asset management system

Ensure compliance with institutional privacy and ethical standards

Campus Training & Support

Educate campus partners on photography best practices

Provide guidance on submitting photography to Communications & Marketing

Support decentralized content creation while maintaining brand standards

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong visual storytelling and technical photography skills

Attention to detail and organizational ability

Effective communication and collaboration

Sound judgment in public‑facing environments

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting

Strong leadership and collaboration skills with a commitment to a team‑based work environment

Natural aptitude for technology and expertise with MS Office, including expert level use of Excel

Ability to problem‑solve and use analytical skills to develop and implement creative solutions

Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail

Ability to take initiative to work proactively, meet deadlines, organize and prioritize multiple projects, think strategically, and work with numbers and data

Exhibit personal integrity and ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information

Exhibit a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sound professional judgment

Experience / Education

2–4 years of professional photography experience

Demonstrated portfolio of event, portrait, and storytelling photography

Experience with digital asset management or large image libraries

Strong organizational and time‑management skills

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supervising or mentoring student employees

Familiarity with metadata standards and taxonomy development

Experience in higher education or mission‑driven organizations

License/Certifications
California driver’s license and a good driving record required

Work Schedule
This is a regular, non‑exempt, part‑time staff position working up to 30 hours per week. During the academic year, the position is expected to work up to 30 hours per week, with a reduced schedule of up to 15 hours per week during the summer months. The typical schedule will be Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility is required as work hours may vary to meet the operational needs of the College and department, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Work Model

In‑office requirement: Mondays and Wednesdays for regular team meetings

Remaining hours scheduled based on event coverage and departmental needs

May work up to 40 hours per week during peak periods, including:

Move‑In Weekend (August)

Family Weekend (October/November)

Alumni Weekend (April/May)

Commencement (May)

Overtime eligible during approved peak periods, based on a mutually agreed schedule

Must have access to reliable and secure computer and internet connection

Must have access to a dedicated and suitable workstation at remote location, including desk or table and supporting, upright chair. Must ensure workstation is safe and free from hazards and ergonomically appropriate

Physical Requirements

Ability to move across campus and event locations

Ability to carry and operate photography equipment

Employment Requirements
