We are seeking an energetic, curious early-career journalist to join our newsroom as a New York Reporting Fellow. This role is designed for an emerging reporter eager to develop strong reporting instincts, sharpen news judgment, and gain experience covering the stories, trends, and conversations shaping Jewish life in New York and across the United States.
Working closely with editors and reporters, the Fellow will contribute to daily news coverage, identify emerging stories, pursue original reporting, and help our newsroom respond quickly to breaking developments. The Fellow will have the opportunity to attend conferences and benefit from other enrichment opportunities.

They are eager for feedback and mentoring to develop their journalism skills while adhering to the highest reporting and editing standards.

Responsibilities
- Report and write breaking news, trends and feature stories for digital publication.
- Monitor breaking news and rapidly develop stories as events unfold.
- Identify and pitch timely, relevant stories that are gaining traction on social media, within Jewish communities and in the broader news cycle.
- Attend events, press conferences, public meetings and community gatherings throughout the New York area.
- Work collaboratively with editors to develop original enterprise and trend stories.
- Assist with live news coverage and contribute to major breaking-news efforts as needed.
- Monitor social media platforms, newsletters and other information sources to identify emerging stories and audience interests.
- Support newsroom operations including by creating social media and newsletter content, assisting with research and fact-checking.
- Support newsroom operations through administrative and editorial tasks, such as maintaining calendars and organizing contact lists.
- Uphold the highest standards of journalistic accuracy, fairness and ethics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications, political science, history, Jewish studies or a related field.
- Up to two years of journalism experience, including internships, freelance work or entry-level newsroom roles.
- Strong reporting, writing and interviewing skills.
- Demonstrated interest in news, current events and digital journalism.
- Interest in Jewish communities, culture, religion, politics and public affairs.
- Ability to work efficiently under deadline pressure and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Dedication to traditional journalism values of objectivity, nonpartisanship, fairness and inclusivity.
- Strong news judgment and curiosity about what readers are talking about and sharing.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital publishing tools.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and willingness to contribute to both editorial and operational aspects of a small, collaborative newsroom.
This position is based in New York, NY, and requires 2-3 days in the office.
