Role Summary Practical Law (ThomsonReuters) is looking for a Senior Specialist Legal Editor to create and maintain commercial legal and compliance content for our Law Firm and Law Department subscribers. The role leads content development, editorial coordination, and AI initiatives across national and global platforms.
Responsibilities Develop commercial legal and compliance content of national and global significance for Practical Law’s online services.
Write and edit standard form documents, practice‑guidance notes, and checklists in accordance with Practical Law’s style.
Assist in the editorial development of Practical Law or ThomsonReuters products, including global and AI initiatives.
Establish and maintain relationships with external law‑firm contributors.
Write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law The Journal.
Stay informed of current legal developments in commercial contracting and provide timely updates to existing content and new material.
Build relationships with lawyers in private practice, in‑house counsel, and legal professional groups to keep the Commercial service topical and relevant.
Support AI initiatives, training models and validating performance.
Collaborate with product development and sales‑marketing teams; conduct sales demonstrations and webinars.
Respond to subscriber inquiries regarding Practical Law resources.
Qualifications Minimum 8years of experience as a lawyer in a law firm or in‑house counsel.
Expertise in commercial transactional and regulatory matters: contract principles, government contracting, multi‑state consumer regulation, manufacturing & supply‑chain compliance, franchise, distribution, logistics, warehousing, reseller transactions, e‑commerce, consulting, sales‑representative, and professional‑services arrangements.
Strong project‑management skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks.
Excellent written communication: attention to detail, mastery of grammar and punctuation, plain‑English style, and clarity when explaining complex legal issues.
Collaborative mindset and ability to support team members.
Flexibility to take on tasks beyond writing legal resources, such as product‑development support, marketing outreach, webinars, and subscriber support.
Selected candidates will be required to submit a writing sample.
