Senior Director of University Marketing and Digital Strategies
Telecommuting – The selected candidate will be required to work in person for the first six months. After that period, the position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Job Summary
The Director of University Marketing is a key leadership role within Communications & Marketing, responsible for developing and driving integrated marketing strategies that elevate the UC Santa Cruz brand, expand audience reach, and support enrollment and institutional goals.
The director leads a skilled team of creative professionals, develops data‑informed campaigns across digital and traditional channels, and collaborates closely with campus partners to help achieve the university’s priorities.
Appointment Information
Salary: $119,400 – $135,000 per year (budgeted)
Benefits: Full benefits eligibility
Schedule: Full‑time, Fixed; 40 hours per week; Monday–Friday; Day shift

Job Duties
Develop and oversee a comprehensive strategic marketing plan that advances brand visibility, institutional reputation, enrollment goals, and philanthropic initiatives; serve as chief marketing thought leader; establish and monitor key performance indicators; use data and analytics to guide strategy; stay current on higher education marketing trends.
Lead a team that includes a creative director, a social media & digital engagement manager, and a digital marketing manager; provide direction, mentorship, and professional development; foster a collaborative, high‑performing culture; coordinate across the team to ensure creative output is on‑brand and on‑schedule.
Lead development of integrated marketing campaigns across video, social media, email, digital advertising, and web channels; collaborate with creative director and digital marketing manager; oversee campaign timelines and budgets.
Champion brand identity across all marketing touchpoints; collaborate with campus partners; represent the department on cross‑divisional committees and external forums.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience and training.
Thorough knowledge of current and emerging digital marketing trends and best practices.
Excellent skills in strategic planning, resource organization, stakeholder engagement, and priority setting.
Excellent staff management skills: selection, training, evaluation, mentoring, and disciplinary action.
Excellent interpersonal communication and political acumen for working with internal and external constituencies.
Strong analytical, market research, and problem‑recognition skills.
Ability to produce results within budget and time constraints.
Strong knowledge of university policies, copyright, and licensing laws.
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the campus health system and its mission, goals, vision, infrastructure, products, and services.
Special Conditions of Employment
Required to pass a pre‑employment criminal history background check.
Required to pass the employment misconduct disclosure process.
Required to work onsite for the first six months before transitioning to a hybrid schedule.
Ability to work long periods at a computer with or without accommodation.
Ability to work a hybrid schedule, including remote work, and fulfill UCSC telecommuting agreement.
Ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
Ability to maintain professional appearance and conduct.
Required to complete training within established time frames, including UC compliance training.
Compliance with the University of California vaccine program policies.
Mandated reporter for child abuse; required to report and sign acknowledgment.
Discretion in managing sensitive information.

Final candidate accepting the conditional offer must disclose any misconduct incidents in the last seven years, current administrative or disciplinary proceedings, or appeals of findings of misconduct.
