Under Executive Zahilay’s leadership, King County is working to build a high‑performing government that delivers results for residents. The Executive Office is seeking a creative and strategic Social Media Manager to lead the Executive’s digital presence and help communicate county priorities through engaging and accessible content. This role will develop social media strategy, create content, and support timely digital communications. Working closely with communications and policy teams, the Social Media Manager will help connect residents with the work of county government.
Job Duties
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage a social media strategy aligned with the Executive’s priorities and communications goals.
Create and publish digital content across social media platforms, including video and visual storytelling.
Translate county programs, policies, and priorities into clear and engaging content.
Partner with communications, policy, and community engagement teams to support coordinated messaging.
Support communications during breaking news, emerging issues, and high‑profile moments.
Foster community engagement and help manage conversations across digital platforms.
Monitor social media performance and use audience insights to improve content and strategy.
Explore new platforms, formats, and digital trends to strengthen engagement and reach.
Ensure content meets accessibility standards and complies with legal and public records requirements.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a creative and thoughtful communicator with strong digital storytelling skills and sound judgment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience managing social media or digital communications.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Experience creating digital content, including video and multimedia.
Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and engaging way.
Strong judgment and the ability to work in a fast‑moving environment.
Experience working collaboratively across teams and managing multiple priorities.
Familiarity with analytics and using data to improve performance.
Commitment to accessibility and communicating with diverse communities.
Experience supporting executive communications, public figures, government, high‑visibility organizations, or digital creator and influencer partnerships is preferred.
Work Schedule
This team currently works in a hybrid model that includes three to four days in the office with remaining work remotely. The ratio of remote to onsite work is dependent on business needs and is subject to change.
Typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some evening, night, and weekend work as necessary. This position is exempt from the provisions of the FLSA and is not eligible for overtime.
