Principal Transmission Engineer - City of Seattle

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, analysis, and implementation of high‑voltage transmission lines, substations, and hydroelectric plant interfaces.

Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for large‑scale transmission projects.

Coordinate with regulatory agencies, contractors, and internal stakeholders to secure permits and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams.

Oversee project schedules, budgets, and quality control to deliver projects on time and within scope.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

10+ years of experience in transmission engineering, with a strong background in high‑voltage systems and substation design.

Proficiency in power system analysis tools (e.g., PSS®E, ETAP) and CAD software.

Excellent project management skills, including cost estimation, scheduling, and risk mitigation.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
