Primary Purpose
Assist head director with orchestra program and teach/conduct non-varsity orchestral ensembles. Assist with growth and improvement of student musicianship and skills, and of overall orchestral program.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree, in music, music education, or music performance with a concentration in strings, string pedagogy, string music education, or a performance degree on a string instrument or conducting.
- Valid Texas music teaching certificate or ability to acquire Texas music certification.
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Be highly proficient on one string instrument as the primary instrument.
- Knowledgeable and proficient on all string instruments.
- Have good conducting skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret conductors' scores.
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of overall operations of an orchestral instrumental music program.
- Knowledge of state, TMEA, and UIL policies governing orchestra.
Experience
- Experience performing with a college and/or community orchestra.
