Role Overview
We’re seeking a future team member for the role of VP, Payments Product Owner to join our Global Payments & Trade team. This role is located in New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA.

Responsibilities

This role is pivotal in establishing the foundational support necessary for the ongoing growth, enhancement, and maturity of our Value‑Added Overlay Services (e.g., Paymode, Benefits Disbursement, Vaia, Prepaid Debit Card, Bill Pay Advantage, Merchant Services, Virtual Card), which are key competitive differentiators for BNY.

Essential in Product Governance (rationalizations, periodic reviews, product approvals, etc.), Cost Management (collaborating with tech and Ops to reduce costs), Vendor Management/EM responsibilities, Client Billing, Operating Model Optimization/Product Ownership, Production Issue support, and liaising with Client Service, RMs, and Clients.

Client Service/Implementation Support, Network Workgroup Representation (Business Committee, Direct Member, etc.), Operations and Technology Liaising, P&L responsibility (with revenue shared across functional areas), monitoring client attrition rates (outside pricing), participating in client meetings for non‑sale activities, engaging in client onboarding, product governance efforts, training internal stakeholders, preparing client‑facing materials, and generating scalable and sustainable revenue opportunities.

Product Execution: Able to write specs for minor features and contribute meaningfully to specs for major features. Able to negotiate the implementation of current work, make the right trade‑off decisions to launch products in a high‑quality manner. Knows when to elevate to managers. Works with teams to make recommendations that deliver maximum value to end users as quickly as possible. Can efficiently assess release quality and readiness.

Customer Insights: Formulates business questions to be asked and knows how to track down data to inform decisions. Uses low fidelity tools to outline a design approach and then works with teams to translate them into higher fidelity representation. Makes regular contact with users to prioritize roadmap decisions. Product Strategy: Understands business outcomes and how product decisions impact trade‑offs. Responsible for crafting a near‑term product roadmap (in partnership with manager) and can communicate to junior team members.

Primary responsibilities include: full ownership of the product backlog and near‑term roadmap, ensuring that it is properly refined, prioritized and groomed; Agile ceremony ownership across POD and includes tracking velocity and identifying efficiencies for teams; ownership of user stories, refinement process and stakeholder management; ownership of technical design decisions, product performance monitoring, track and analyze key product metrics.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business management or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required.

3–7 years of payments product experience required.

Strong knowledge of payments products, a high level of urgency, and accountability are essential skills to be successful in the position.

Benefits
The base salary for this position is expected to be between $68,000 and $179,000 per year at the commencement of employment. Salary will be determined on an individualized basis. Total compensation may include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentive packages, and Company‑sponsored benefit programs.

This position is at‑will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time.
