Job Summary
The Social Media Coordinator works under general supervision to manage Suffolk Public Library’s social media tools and resources, assist with creating engaging artwork and graphics for digital and print media, and collaborate with team members to produce designs that align with brand guidelines.

Responsibilities

Develop, manage, and maintain the social media strategy and year‑round content calendar for all library social media platforms.

Proactively curate, create, and schedule engaging content to support community engagement, programming, outreach, and public awareness initiatives.

Generate creative concepts and design solutions for projects including logos, brochures, advertisements, social media graphics, videos, website layouts, and more.

Collaborate with clients, stakeholders and team members to understand project requirements and objectives.

Maintain and enforce city‑wide strategic branding initiatives across all departments.

Use graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to create high‑quality designs.

Ensure designs are visually appealing, communicate key messages, and adhere to brand guidelines and industry standards.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Stay updated on design trends, techniques and best practices to continually improve skills and deliver innovative designs.

Provide constructive feedback and participate in design reviews to maintain quality standards and drive creative excellence.

Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and stakeholders to address feedback, make revisions, and finalize designs.

Support marketing and promotional efforts by creating compelling visual content for various channels and campaigns.

Maintain organized files and documentation of design assets for easy access and future reference.

Assist in managing all city social media platforms and provide strategic guidance for city department outlets.

Answer telephone calls and respond to city web mail.

Perform other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree in marketing or a related field and one (1) year of experience in marketing, public information or public relations – or equivalent training and experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Full‑time Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

Retirement – Virginia Retirement System employer for employees hired on or after 1/1/14. Hybrid members contribute 4% of compensation to the defined benefit plan and 1% to the defined contribution plan each month. Voluntary contributions up to an additional 4% are permitted. Paid Time Off (PTO) – For 1‑59 months: 120 hrs, 60‑119 months: 144 hrs, 120‑179 months: 168 hrs, 180+ months: 192 hrs.

Sick Leave – Part‑time employees earn 4 hrs per month; accrual with no ceiling.

Personal Leave – Full‑time employees receive 24 hrs per calendar year, non‑cumulative.

Health Insurance – Coverage available for employees and eligible dependents using pre‑tax payroll deductions if elected.

Supplemental Insurances – Employees may purchase short‑term and long‑term disability, cancer, accident, supplemental hospitalization, and group universal life insurance.

Employer‑Sponsored Short‑Term and Long‑Term Disability – Work‑related disabilities covered from day one; non‑work related from day eight after one year of employment.

Life Insurance – City pays the entire premium for coverage equal to 2× annual salary for natural death and 4× for accidental death. Optional life coverage available in multiples of salary.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) – 12 weeks of job‑protected leave with continuation of health insurance and job protection.

Funeral Leave – 24 hrs paid leave for death in immediate family.

Holidays – Suffolk follows Virginia State holiday calendar.

Jury Duty – Pay per city policy; difference between jury pay and regular pay or use annual leave.

457 Deferred Compensation, ROTH IRA, Traditional IRA – Offered through ICMA Retirement Corporation.
