Radio Frequency Network Engineer I - Tactical Communications SME

Overview
Tech(x) is seeking a

Radio Frequency (RF) Network Engineer I

to support advanced

tactical communications, RF systems engineering, and network integration

efforts in support of DoD modernization initiatives. This role is critical to the design, testing, and sustainment of

RF communication systems and tactical radio networks

within laboratory and operational environments.

The ideal candidate is a

hands‑on telecommunications and signal systems professional

with deep experience in

HMS tactical radios, multichannel communication systems, COMSEC, and network troubleshooting , capable of supporting

RDT&E, system integration, and mission‑critical communications operations .

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and sustain

RF communication systems and Tactical Data Links (TDL)

across system‑of‑systems architectures

Perform

RDT&E (Research, Development, Test & Evaluation)

activities supporting tactical communications and RF systems integration

Conduct

telecommunications network troubleshooting and performance analysis , identifying gaps and implementing system enhancements

Configure, operate, and maintain

Handheld, Manpack & Small Form Fit (HMS) radios , including waveform management and optimization

Develop and execute

test plans, technical documentation, and system evaluation reports

Support

installation, integration, and sustainment of tactical communication systems , including SATCOM, SINCGARS, and mission command platforms

Perform

coax, RF, and network equipment testing , ensuring systems operate at optimal performance levels

Apply

communications theory, modulation techniques, and link budget analysis

to support RF system performance and reliability

Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to enhance

network infrastructure, interoperability, and system reliability

Provide

technical training and user support

on communication systems and equipment to military and government personnel.

All other duties assigned.

Qualifications

RF & Tactical Communications Expertise

Strong working knowledge of

tactical radio systems, waveforms, and communication architectures

Experience with

HMS radios, SINCGARS, TACSAT, PRC‑series radios, and multichannel radio networks

Understanding of

RF propagation, modulation schemes, and end‑to‑end communications systems

Proven ability to

install, configure, and troubleshoot telecommunications networks and signal systems

Experience integrating

radio, satellite, and battlefield communication systems

(e.g., JCR, BFT, JBC‑P)

Familiarity with system‑of‑systems integration and tactical network modernization efforts

COMSEC & Secure Communications

Hands‑on experience with

COMSEC handling, secure communications, and cryptographic equipment support

Understanding of

keying procedures, certification requirements, and secure network operations

Preferred Qualifications

25U Military trained.

Experience working in a technical lab environment.

Clearance

Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)

3+ years of experience in RF communications, telecommunications, or tactical network systems

4 Years of experience can substitute for a degree.

25U MOS training is applicable.

Travel

Travel requirements will fluctuate but are not expected to be over 15%
