Impact Narrative & Design VISTA DC
The Coalition is a Washington D.C. based nonprofit membership organization that convenes a network of affordable housing developers, workforce training providers, small business support organizations, financial institutions, and government partners. Together, this network works to expand economic opportunity for low-income residents across the District, particularly in Wards 5, 7, and 8, where poverty and housing instability remain most significant. The VISTA Volunteer will strengthen the communications infrastructure that supports this network by building systems to improve how impact data, stories, and program outcomes are collected, organized, and shared. While The Coalition and its partners generate significant outcomes across housing stability, workforce development, and small business growth, communications capacity is limited by fragmented data sources, constrained staff bandwidth, and limited capacity for consistent storytelling and content production. Key areas of work include establishing an impact story collection process, creating centralized systems for organizing and maintaining program data and communications assets, and strengthening how internal information is translated into external-facing written content, digital materials, and visual communications. The VISTA Volunteer will be responsible for supporting the production of written communications such as website content, newsletters, and impact stories, as well as creating basic graphic design assets for digital and social media platforms. The goal of this position is to strengthen The Coalition's long-term capacity to demonstrate the collective impact of its network. Improved systems will increase visibility of effective anti-poverty strategies, enhance the organization's ability to communicate outcomes to funders and policymakers, and support increased investment in housing, workforce, and small business initiatives serving low-income communities.
Member Duties: The Narrative & Design VISTA will strengthen The Coalition's capacity to measure, document, and communicate organizational impact. The VISTA Volunteer will assess and refine existing systems for collecting impact stories and organizational accomplishments while developing and implementing a framework for tracking impact metrics across programs and initiatives. Throughout the service year, the VISTA Volunteer will maintain and improve these systems, collect and organize impact data and narratives, and translate information into written and visual communications products, including reports, newsletters, website content, graphics, and impact stories. The VISTA Volunteer will also support annual reporting efforts and develop documentation, templates, and tools that enable staff to sustain impact measurement, storytelling, and communications practices beyond the VISTA service term.
