Are you a high‑energy, digital‑savvy individual who thrives on breaking stories? KOLN is seeking a Breaking News MMJ/Producer to join our morning team. This role commands the 10/11 Alert Center, drives our digital desk, and helps Lincoln wake up with the information they need to start their day. If you want to be the first word on the stories that matter most, this is the place.
Responsibilities

Command the Alert Center:

Own the morning headlines from our digital desk during 10/11 This Morning, anchoring breaking news with urgency, authority, and a conversational style that connects viewers on every screen.
Chase the Story:

Hit the ground running to breaking news scenes across the Capital City, providing live reports that capture the “right now” of a developing situation.
Drive Digital Engagement:

Keep a pulse on our digital platforms, crafting compelling social content and sending out breaking news pushes that keep audiences informed wherever they are.
Amplify the Weather Experience:

When the weather turns, serve as the bridge between science and the street by delivering real‑time, live coverage of conditions during the 10/11 Weather Shield.
Master the Control Room:

Cross‑train as a producer to take the lead of the show when needed, learning the nuts and bolts of Lincoln’s most‑trusted newscast.
Craft Urgent Narratives:

Write scripts that tell a story, locating the best video, sourcing reliable information, and producing segments that move at the speed of news.
Qualifications

A News Junkie’s Heart:

A deep interest in local and national news and a natural curiosity that drives the search for the “human” angle in every headline.
Killer News Judgment:

Ability to distinguish between minor delays and major emergencies, making confident calls in chaotic scenes.
Digital‑First Mindset:

Comfortable creating content for social and streaming platforms, ensuring stories “pop” online.
On‑Air Presence:

Natural, energetic on‑camera presence, whether from a professional newsroom or a college station.
Self‑Starter DNA:

Proactive decision‑maker who thrives independently yet knows when to rely on teammates.
Urgency and Empathy:

Fast movement without losing sight of the people behind the stories, treating all interviews with respect.
Technical Scrappiness:

Familiarity with Sony/JVC cameras, Edius, and ENPS is a plus, but a willingness to learn new tech is essential.
