JKN Sports Consulting helps athletes, coaches, teams, and sports organizations grow on and off the field through leadership, strategy, mentorship, and operations support. Founded by coach and strategist Kaleb Nelson, the company specializes in coaching development, football operations, player mentorship, event coordination, and sports business consulting. JKN Sports Consulting is hiring on behalf of the Minor Football League (MFL).

Supporting Client: Minor Football League
The MFL was founded in 1993 by Richard Myles, Sr. It is a professional minor football league with a global presence, featuring 16 franchise teams in both the United States and Africa. With a structure similar to minor league systems in baseball and basketball, the MFL provides a unique platform that develops players both on and off the field, including leadership opportunities in team operations. The league emphasizes community engagement through mandatory community service for all players, aligning with its mission as "the laboratory of change." Grounded in values of integrity, commitment, and excellence, the MFL continues to innovate within the football industry.

Role Description
This is a part‑time, hybrid, unpaid internship located in the Washington DC‑Baltimore area for a Social Media Marketing Intern. The intern will assist in managing the social media accounts for the Virginia Lightning team. They will create engaging social media content, contribute to digital marketing campaigns, and support general marketing strategies. Day‑to‑day tasks will include crafting visually appealing and informative posts, monitoring engagement metrics, conducting audience analysis, and brainstorming innovative ways to connect with the community through social platforms. This role will support projects connected to the MFL and Virginia Lightning.

This is a hands‑on opportunity to gain experience in:

Sports media

Social media management

Content creation

Photography/videography

Branding

Live sports coverage

The ideal candidate is someone who:

Loves sports and football culture

Can capture quality photo/video content using a smartphone

Has familiarity with social media platforms, tools, and analytics.

Has basic editing skills for reels, graphics, photos, and videos

Is energetic, creative, reliable, and self‑motivated

Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively

Interest in sports marketing and community engagement

Wants real portfolio‑building experience in sports media and operations

Unpaid internship

Immediate start preferred

Internship runs through August 2026 or until the student returns to school

Flexible scheduling outside of practices/games

Opportunity to build a strong sports media portfolio and gain real startup sports experience

Located in the Northern Virginia / Washington, D.C. area

Responsibilities

Create and post social media content for the Virginia Lightning on IG, TT, X, & FB

Promote games, players, events, and team activities across social media platforms

Attend all home games and local away games to capture content

Attend at least one practice per week for media coverage

Create reels, highlight clips, graphics, and behind‑the‑scenes content

Engage with followers and help grow team visibility online

Assist with game‑day fan engagement and branding efforts
