To support the communications office at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the part-time Science Writer will be responsible for writing news releases and feature stories on scientific discoveries, conducting interviews, and ensuring the accuracy of written pieces in a fully remote capacity.
Key responsibilities

Write and edit news releases and feature stories based on scientific research from Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Research and conduct interviews to gather information, ensuring accuracy and adherence to AP style
Compose materials for distribution to news media and other departmental publications

Required qualifications

Experience writing engaging copy for diverse audiences, particularly in ocean, earth, and atmospheric sciences
Thorough knowledge of issues in oceanography, geophysics, and marine biology
Strong understanding of writing fundamentals, grammar, and editorial style guidelines
Experience in research and fact verification related to scientific topics
Familiarity with computer applications for publishing and web production
